My Christmas Break

I really like having Christmas every year. It is a great time to see my family. But this year was different then all of the usual years I have celebrated it. That is because my mom's parents moved to Lewisburg. So instead of me going to church then to my dad's parents(Christmas Eve) then my mom's parents (to sleep and wake up Christmas Day). I went to church then went to my dad's parents(Christmas Eve).Which followed by a trip back to my house to sleep. then that morning  we got up early and took the small trip to my mom's parents. Even though everything was crazy I was able to see everyone, open presents, and eat good food. When I look back on it, it was very fun.

Design Plan

I didn't really like the design plan when I first started it. Once I did 3-4 it wasn't as hard because I was pretty much in the swing of things. Since I had a correct and incorrect scene they had the same answer so the time went by faster. I think that answering the questions helped me think about each scene and how they work and so on.

1. Describe this scene: What do you see? You see how you did on the problem.
2. List of Assets for this scene: (Note: You may not need all these asset types.)
  • Background I have a green background for this scene.
  • Character(s) The character is not in this scene.
  • Object(s) There is no objects in this scene.
  • Animation(s)Nothing is moving in this scene.
  • Sound(s) There is no sound on this scene.
  • Button(s)There is a button that brings you to the next problem.
  • TextThere is text saying how you did on the problem and also text on the button.
3. Describe the action in this scene:
  • What actions must be completed by the player in this scene? You read how you did then click on the button.
  • What controls does the player use to complete each action in the scene? The player uses the mouse to do the action.
  • Is there a scoring or feedback system? How does it work? How is it displayed? There is no scoring for this scene.
  • Are there characters? How many? Does the player control any character (how)? Can the player interact with any character(s)? How?There are no characters in this scene.
  • How do you win the activity in this scene? You are not able to win.
  • What happens when you win? You aren't able to win so nothing happens if you win.
  • How do you lose the activity in this scene? You are not able to lose on this scene.
  • What happens when you lose? Since you can't lose nothing happens when you lose.
  • How does the player navigate from this scene to other scenes? You navigate by clicking the buttons.
  • Can the player quit the scene or game from here? How?You are not able to quit from this scene.

Paper Prototype video blog

*  The Big Idea: Describe your team's game topic. What is the most important concept you want your players to learn? The topic is about range and fair food. The most important thing I want them to learn is to make more healthy choices at the fair.
*  Making Decisions as a Team: How did your individual ideas from "Imagining Your Game" come together for your team game topic? How did your team decide the topic? The ideas that I had for “Imagining Your Game” helped because it took my big topic and made it come into a good small detailed idea. For example I had the big topic fair food after research I realized that I should have you judge the different foods from 1-10. The second example that I have for range is that I took it and didn’t ask questions about it but I put in my game by getting the player to choose from the numbers 1-10.
*
*  Roles & Responsibilities: Tell us more about your team process. Please each talk about your specific roles, and how you work together. I am a one man team. I have already done 5 scenes and have drawn everything in all of them. I plan to make all the rest of the scenes and put codes on them all of them.
*  Research: What kind of research went into the way you will express the game topic? The website that really helped was wikipedia. I researched different foods and was able to find there nutritional values. Also I typed in range and figured out what it exactly was and how I could put it in my game.
*  The User Experience: Explain the game play. What actions does the player take in the game? Has this changed since you first started planning your game? Why? In the game you move my little alien to the number you think that best shows how healthy the food is. The action is the player clicking and dragging the little alien to the right place. When I first started panning my game I never thought exactly what actions to put in the game, but after working with my paper prototype I got a good idea.
*  Mastering Flash: What Flash resources have been most helpful in your learning so far, and why? How did you locate these resources? I think that paper prototyping was most helpful. I think this because it helped to remember what to put in each scene and also let me remember what scene was first then second and so on. You found the resources to start a paper prototype at the part on the side of the screen that says paper prototype.
*  Overcoming Challenges: What curriculum topic has been most difficult for you so far? How did you overcome this difficulty? I think that the curriculum that has been most difficult has been the codes. I have been able to overcome this by either looking it up of asking the teacher.

Drawing a scene

The new things that I have learned have been the nutrition of the different fair foods. I came to learn these in many different websites. The main source that gave me a better understanding was Wikipedia. The thing that makes it informative and trustworthy is that it told a lot about the different foods by saying how good they are for you and also saying what was better than others.

Adding scene links

The story that my game tells is going through the different foods and finding how healthy they are.  By doing this you learn what good choices to make at the fair are. The example of the game that had a good story to it was “Medical Mysteries”.  It led you through and you did many levels that were based on medical things. I have also played many games on not just the computer that goes together and makes a story.

My Thanksgiving Traditions

My Thanksgiving tradition is all about my family spending time together. Every Thanksgiving I am able to have meals with my mom's side of the family and also my dad's since all of my grandparents live close by. The whole day pretty much starts at my dad's parents because they have their meal at noon. We try to get there early so we can see everyone and help in the kitchen. It is a fun filled afternoon of over eating and visiting. Then later in the day we get in the car and drive to my mom's parents. My grandma always makes a different spin on the meal beacause she knows that we are filled already with turkey. That is where we always finish the Thanksgiving meal(s). I really like seeing most of my family on one day.

Paper Prototyping

I really liked making the paper prototype. After making it I am sure what will happen and what everything will do. I think that I was able to make my social issue (fair food) and my math concept (range) come together. After working on it I feel that I know all of the details that my game will have. I felt that I had a well working game so I had someone play my game and they seemed to enjoy it. I had many ideas of what my game would have in it but with the paper prototype I was able to make them come together. So in the end I think that the paper prototype was used so that when you sit down to make the game you don't take time thinking of what to do you just start.

Planning Your Game

My team is named the pirates. I am the only one in my team. I will make and finish my game all by myself. I have worked on two of my scenes for my game on flash so far.I think that what I look forward to the most is the codes that I will work with. I really like working with flash and I think that I have learned alot from it.

Keeping score

I really enjoyed doing the keeping score tutorial. I was really good at it, but had to use the mini-game for some extra things. Besides that I just used the prior knowledge I had and was able to get my little orange rectangle to be eaten by my big blue guy. I know that my real game will have alot to do with numbers and things like that, but I am figuring out how to get it in. I enjoyed working with the codes on this one because it had the different layers.

Collision Detection

I really enjoyed doing the collision detection on flash. Even though I was not able to get the collision just right. I don't know if I will have any collision in my game, but it was still good practice and I was able to learn more on flash. Also I like the coding for the shapes and what you have to do to get them not only to move but to hit and know when they hit to move back to there spots. The one thing that interests me is how the mini-game goes right along with the things we do.

imagining your game

Unhealthy food at the fair for me is starting to become a big  promblem. I think that it probalbly has somehting with obessity. In my game I will have my sorry little alien that doesn't know what to get at the fair . but with your smarts you can help him get past a day at the fair. Choosing healthy options that benifit him. You will  run in to the different  stands and and choose with the range 1-10(1 healthy 10 unhealthiest). Getting a better number choose will make you loose the most wieght once you loose a certin amout of weight you win.

Tutorial/moving shapes

When I started working with it, it didn't make alot of sense. But after looking at the codes and some advice from others I started to get what to do. I think moving the shapes is something that I will need to learn how to do. It made me think and for some reason I liked that. It was my first real taste of what my game will hold. I can't wait for what the rest of the tutorials will show me to do.

Mini-game

I really enjoyed doing the mini-game. I think that it was very detailed and also gave alot of information. The thing that I liked the most was when you take all of the codes put them together and are able to have everything work. I can't wait to start my real game so I can put alot of the new/ cool things I learned. I did think that there was alot of saving that you have to do, but it really helps out in the end.

my first flash scene

Doing a flash scene is more hard than I thought it would be. I am guessing it is because it is my first time making one. Coding will hopefully be better. I did think that everything was really cool and I also go a big kick out of just how hard it was to move the mouse straight. In my scene I tried to make a sunny day and a billboard showing some of the unhealthy foods at the fair.

Social Issue

My Social Issue Is Fair Food . I am passionate about Fair food because I think that there is alot of unhealthy foods and  believe people think that is the only stuff that the fair sales is bad. I will show that are good choices at the fair and it is not all bad.

playing to learn game review

The game that I thought taught me the most was "Medical Mysteries". The educational topic was about sickness and diseases. What I learned from the game was how to stop diseases and what you can do when you get them. The  main topic was Adventure and I think that it has alot of great information. Also I think that the game was clear and I understood it perfectly. I saw no real room for improvement and I had I good gameplaying experience. I don't think that I will do the same main topic or educational topic but the game was still great.

My math concept and social issue.

My math concept is" range" and my social issue is "fair food". I choose " range" because I thought that range is a good subject . I also think could come up with alot of ideas for a game with it. I choose "fair food" because I go to the fair and I see all of the unhealth food and I really want more healthy things to be sold. I think that these things are good to have in a game because  others probably feel the same about "fair food". Also I think that other would probably  think that "range" can give many ideas.
